Groundworks for Modular Changing Rooms: What Your Club Needs to Prepare

Groundworks are the part of a modular building project the club arranges itself, and the part that causes the most questions. Get the foundations and services right and installation day is smooth; get them wrong and it is expensive. Here is what your groundworker needs to know.

Foundations

Modular changing rooms need a level, load bearing base: typically concrete pads under each corner and midpoint, strip foundations, or a full slab. We provide a foundation specification for your chosen floor plan showing exactly where loads land. At the University of Greenwich, the groundworkers lowered the foundations so the finished building sat flush with the surrounding tarmac, which is worth considering for accessibility.

Services

• Water: a mains supply to the building position.
• Drainage: foul drainage for showers and toilets, connected to mains drainage or an approved alternative.
• Electricity: typically a single phase or three phase supply depending on the building size; we confirm the load for your plan.

Access for Delivery

Buildings arrive by lorry and are craned onto the foundations. The crane needs firm standing and clear reach to the base, and the lorry needs access wide enough to arrive. We assess access with you before you order; at Weedon Sports Association, two complete buildings were craned in during a single day.

Who Does What

You appoint the groundworker; we supply the specification, coordinate with them, and handle everything from delivery through installation, connection and handover. On council projects such as Thanet District Council we work directly alongside the main contractor.
